Make the Spring Cleaning Process Easier This Year: Rent a Storage Unit

With the welcoming of the spring season comes the annual spring cleaning project. Spring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes, organize and make room for items, and get a head start on the spring and summer months. And after a hard, dreary winter, you may find that your home is certainly in need for a spring spruce-up.

Now is the opportune time to take a look around your home and determine what items you can clear out to add some extra living space. While there are items you may decide to sell or get rid of, what about the items that you want to keep but don't have space for? A storage unit is the perfect solution.

At Extra Attic, we make renting a storage unit simple and affordable. You can rent a self-storage unit in Richmond, VA conveniently online or call us at (804) 222-8072. You can choose the number of months you will rent the unit, and we offer different storage unit sizes to fit your needs.

You should consider self-storage for: - Keeping seasonal and holiday items that don't fit in your home. For example, any skiing or snowboarding clothing and equipment and large Christmas decorations you can keep in a storage unit.

- Items that you no longer use but still want to hold onto. These include items like antiques and children's furniture. If you've been accumulating items for months now and feel that it's time to sort through these belongings and utilize a storage unit, below are basic organization steps to help you in the process.

Have plenty of boxes and bubble wrap Whether you use cardboard boxes, crate, suitcases or luggage, use these to place your belongings. For any fragile items and ceramics, make sure that you properly wrap them with bubble wrap to keep them protected.

Properly fold and pack items To maximize the space in the boxes and containers, make sure to carefully fold and stack the items inside.

Label every box Be sure that you label what's inside. Any sealed boxes, suitcases or luggage should be clearly labeled so that you know what is inside of them when you want to take them out of the storage unit later. For example, if one box is your winter clothes label it with your name and "winter clothes."

Keep items together when packing Stay organized by keeping items together when packing them and not just placing random items together in the same box.

Safeguard valued items Many use storage units for filing away important documents such as tax records and bank statements, as well as highly valuable possessions such as jewelry and antiques. Make sure to properly secure these since they are valuable items.

We’ve all heard horror stories about precious items being damaged by water, cold, heat, and worse, like animals.
