The CarMax Foundation is making a difference in our
community. This foundation enables CarMax employees to promote education,
wellness and youth leadership all around their own neighborhoods.
The
CarMax
Foundation was established in 2003 and accomplishes their goal by providing
volunteers, giving grants to nonprofit organizations and through matching
gifts. The foundation is committed to involving their employees in
philanthropic efforts. They look for organizations that are well-managed,
transparent, show positive results and benefit the community.
Volunteers are one of the most important pieces of the
foundation. The CarMax Foundation allows their employees to volunteer at
worthwhile local causes. Those causes then become eligible for a grant from the
foundation. CarMax Foundation matches gifts given by their employees. The
foundation also uses each CarMax location as a fund raising location three
times per year.
Education is very important to the CarMax Foundation. The
foundation promotes educational opportunities, gives educational grants for after
school programs, technical and environmental education. There are youth
leadership grants available for youth leadership camps, teen development
classes and mentoring programs. Lastly, grants are available for physical
activity programs, healthy living and nutrition.
CarMax is a huge, national car company, but they have found
a way to have an impact on each of their local communities through the CarMax
Foundation. If you have a volunteer organization you should look them up. If
you would like to volunteer and aren’t sure how you can help call them.
Extra Attic hopes you can take advantage
of all the opportunities made available through this wonderful organization.
