Dust off your running shoes and get ready to run.
After a long, cold winter, we all need to get out and exercise! Good news- there is a long time tradition here in Richmond that will get you outside and exercising- the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K. Sports Backers is responsible for organizing this event so you know it will be a winner. It will be held on March 29, which is right around the corner.
Registration is ongoing and the costs range from $30-$55 for adults and $15-$30 for children. The sooner you register, the lower the fee. Regardless of what you pay, all proceeds go to charity. The main charity is the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Along with helping them out with your entrance fee, you will also receive a goodie bag, a t-shirt and a runner’s bib, plus the chance to have a great day!
Spectators are encouraged to line the course. Over 25 bands are scheduled to perform throughout the race. A list of bands and where they will be playing is on the race’s official website- www.sportsbackers.org. Imagine the excitement created from the bands, the crowd, and your own adrenaline. Now add several contests like “Who has the best costume?” AT&T Dash for the Cash, and “Where is the most creative T shirt?” and a post- race party in Monroe Park and you have a fabulous event!
Parking, places to keep your valuables and all other race day logistics have been thought through by Sports Backers. Race day will be so much fun! All you need to do is get ready. More good news- The YMCA has training groups ready for you to join regardless of your running abilities. Again, check the information on their website.
It’s only February and I know I’m tired of the cold already. Plus, I haven’t been outside much to get my exercise. Don’t let winter get the best of you. Let’s go and register for the race and then sign up to train with other runners. Some of us here at Extra Attic have participated in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K and can’t wait to do it again!
